Discover the Vintage Cooker

About the owners: An entrepreneurial, professional couple and a teenage son.

Project: A revamp of an outdated kitchen in a three-bedroom, Edwardian semi in Surrey with the aim of making a narrow space feel bigger and which involved reorganising appliances to accommodate a range cooker.

Kitchen budget: £17k

Style: Modern country with vintage styling introduced through shaker style doors, brick shaped tiles, oak worktops and flooring to complement an exposed brick wall.

Colour scheme: White, grey and rustic wood plus some metallic finishes.

De'Longhi range cooker: Vintage style, double cavity, slate grey, dual fuel (gas hob and two electric multifunction ovens including grill), 90cm wide.

The challenge:

We really wanted a range cooker as we love to cook and entertain but were concerned our kitchen was too small and that it would dominate and look out of proportion.

The kitchen was really dark and old fashioned and the units took up too much space as did the fridge freezer so we moved that into another room which made a huge difference and allowed us to plan in a decent size range cooker.

When choosing the range it had to be beautiful given it would be the focal point and so we were really pleased when we found the vintage one from De’Longhi as the styling was spot on. The fact that it came in a matt grey was also really appealing as it provides the perfect contrast to the white units and really lifts the scheme.

We were pleasantly surprised by the price too and had actually planned to spend more but when saw how sturdy it is coupled with its good looks, the decision was easy.
